April 4, 2010 -- we schlepped our spotting scope across the Ohio River to see the first pair of nesting eagles in the Louisville area since pre-DDT days! These Bald Eagles have taken over an old Great Blue Heron's nest in what is still an active heron rookery...

The nest is viewable from the Clark Cabin site on the Ohio River in Clarksville, Indiana, just down river from the Falls of the Ohio State Park. The great distance (60x magnification) and a strong wind buffeting the tripod made good digiscoping impossible, but if you imagine this view in focus, you'll have an idea what we saw through the scope.
